Question: Legal proceedings and Women's Prisons
by Bec (becisvolatile)
at July 9th, 2006 (06:29 pm)

First up anybody feel like giving me a rough outline of the booking, charging and legal proceedings over there? Leading up to conviction? Or telling me where I can find such a thing.

Second, women's prisons. If you get charged in one state, is it safe to assume you'll end up in a prison there? I'm thinking Illinois. I read that there are four/five women's prisons and four co-ed ones. Anybody know of any in particular? I've done some searching on Hopkins Park Women's correctional facility, apparently it was scheduled to be completed in 2002 but I can't find anything beyond news stories about it's planning stages. The company that received the project said that 'The maximum-security facility will also serve as the reception and classification center for women inmates in the State of Illinois.' Does that mean that all female prisoners will go there first? Are there any more obvious prisons? Maybe even out of state? Like, most famous women's prison in the US?

Also, if the prisoner has a high media profile (even if their crime/sentence is minimal) is it possible that would be a factor that might contribute to sending them to a high security prison?

Am I even asking the right questions?

Okay, when you're sentenced, who is it that decides what prison you're sent to? Or are there other factors involved, like, you're sent to the nearest one or the local one or you can decide where you're sent (like Michael requested to be sent to Fox River) in certain cases?

Rephrased: What I ultimately want to know is who makes the final decision in where you go after you've been tried, sentenced, etc. I know the severity of your crime will determine what level facility you'll end up at, but who decides which facility you will go to? Can you make a request to which you'd rather be sent to (like in the pilot when Michael requested to be sent to Fox River), or are you just sent to the nearest or local facility of the appropriate level relative to your crime? Or does the judge decide?

And while I'm here asking questions, was just thinking... do factors like proximity to a victim or victim's family members tie in to where a killer/rapist/etc. may end up? Like, could they request that the offender be incarcerated in a facility out of state or at least farther from them?

Curious, and this time my question actually regards to a fic (and possibly future fic), so it's creative curiosity :P

Lincoln and Michael Facts...

Hi, Clex!

Here are a couple of things I wish I could find for the ship_manifesto thing-- and you'd think they'd be more readily available.

1) How old were Lincoln and Michael at the time of the first episode (the _revised_ ages, that is)?

2) Ages when Ma Scofield died? 11 and 15? (Again, revised version)

Thanks! *squeezes*

I found Michael's Loft...sorta

Ok, when Michael pulls the paper crane out of his office desk in Episode 16, you catch a brief glimpse of his resume, including the address for, I assume, his loft. After a lot of pausing, rewinding, and squinting, I think it says:

440* West Ardmore Avenue
Apartment 11
Chicago, IL 60660

Played with Google Earth (frightening program that it is) and pulled up two maps for you viewing pleasure:
Zoomed Out
Zoomed In

Looks like Michael's within walking distance of the beach. Don't know what this means in Chicago terms, as far as neighborhoods go, but it's something.

*I can't tell, but there might by another character there. A zero or one maybe? Or I'm just hallucinating.

Questions from tonight's epi

1.What military unit did C-note claim to be with tonight? What was the one he was on-loan to?

2. There is one big gaping hole in C-note's story (and the writers' "I'm not in jail; I'm in Iraq!" plot). When a soldier is sent overseas, his family is assigned a Family Readiness Group contact. The FRG's job is to help the families help themselves. (I think that might actually be their motto). When my husband was deployed (to Iraq), I was living out-of-state, so I didn't have much contact with my FRG lady. However, when a problem with my power-of-attorney arose, she was the one I called and she put me in touch with a local JAG office. When I did serious injury to my knee and hadn't heard from my husband for months, she sent word down the grapevine that he needed to call me (end result: my husband got kicked out of bed in the wee hours of the morning by an LT and told to get his ass to a payphone ASAP).

If C-note's wife was fretting about him not getting home on time, her FRG contact would have been the first she contacted, since they talk to the Rear Detachment. If the FRG doesn't know, then civilians aren't supposed to know.

3. Is "The Company" the NSA or the CIA? The baroness and I are having a debate.

PTSD and Panic Attacks

Still trying to figure out if Sara was diagnosing out her butt when she talked about panic / anxiety attacks and Post-traumatic stress disorder. Just a few thoughts that were scurrying around my head while watching the episode.

I've had panic attacks in the past due to a medical condition, and I just did some digging around online. All of Linc's physical symptoms are dead-on for a panic attack...but he also had very good reason to panic. Unlike me, when I was having my attack, he really was going to die.

It's the final symptom on the list that I find interesting. "Intense feeling that one is going to die or is going crazy". Well, Linc was going to die, so feeling intensely like he was going to is a perfectly valid thought. Going crazy...well, I would buy that if he thought he was crazy for seeing his father...but he thought he was being rational when he asked Pope about the man in the viewing room. It was only when Pope identified the man as being Prall, a reporter, and not Mr. Burrows that Linc really started to wonder if he was losing it.

However, hallucinations are not listed as a symptom for panic attacks. For example, I might have been absolutely, irrationally, 100% certain that I was going to die when I got to the top of that escalator, but I didn't see any sort of imaginary method of death. It was just a feeling, brought on by no apparent stimuli.

What I find beyond bizarre is that neither Michael nor Veronica will even entertain the thought that maybe Linc's father, after 30 years, has become a reporter who calls himself Prall. 30 years is a long time. He might have cleaned up his act (I'm assuming he's sleaze based on the way they all talk about him) and given himself a new name to go with his new life and job. Hell, he may have just lied to Pope to get access to the viewing room without causing a lot of hubbub...I'm assuming of course that Linc got his surname from his father, correct me if I'm wrong. They both just automatically assume that the stress has completely blown Linc's mind. Bad writing on the part of the show's writers. Linc might not be the smartest bulb in the box, but he doesn't come across as a complete simpleton.

As for the PTSD, I live with two soldiers, one who has already done a tour in Iraq. The main symptoms we're told to look for are mood swings, frequent nightmares, and agitation. Soldiers and accident victims are both the usual demographics to suffer from PTSD...at least the ones the public hears about, but I wonder if anybody has ever studied released prisoners. Anybody heard of anything like that? Certainly, it's a brutal world where the rules of survival have changed a great deal and the chances of witnessing or experiencing something truly traumatic is greatly increased--Cherry's suicide, Michael's toes getting cut off, etc.

Sucre has Four years, one month left on his full sentence suddenly according to the newest bios.

But in 0104 Sucre calls Maricruz's cell phone (Which is possible in a third-party way) to talk to her. During the conversation she says the following (I just rewatched and transcribed this part):

"Yeah well Hector says that if something goes wrong in there, that uh, you could serve your whole sentence. I can't wait ten years, I can't wait ten years baby."

The writers are complete fucking idiots don't know what continuity is apparently.

T-Bag's Crimes and Sentencing Information
by BEWARE OF JENMAR. (clex_monkie89)

Alabama State Statutory Laws.

thekayla asked recently about T-Bag's crimes and now that I've found a site I shall repost the answers here.

Questions answered under the cut:

- How long would T-Bag have spent in juvie for his attempted arson?
- What about his other crimes ("Battery, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and ultimately kidnapping, rape and murder.")? How much jail time could he have received for those?
- How much time if he was still a juvenile?
- How much if he was an adult?
- He is currently incarcerated for six counts of Kidnapping, Rape, and First Degree Murder (According to the Fox Bios as of the 3-9-06). What are the minimum and maximum sentences he could have gotten?

Arson, prison sentences and other questions

I've been curious about this... How long would T-Bag have spent in juvie for his attempted arson? What about his other crimes("Battery, assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder and ultimately kidnapping, rape and murder.")? How much jail time could he have received for those? How much time if he was still a juvenile? How much if he was an adult?

Is Donaldson a real prison?

And (last one, swear) is level one really maximum security in Illinois? (Always confused me because level one is minimum around here)
